Why do some People like Music More than Others?

Music, like many things in life, is a matter of preference that falls on a spectrum. For some, music can have a massive influence on a person’s life and day to day activities, and for others, music can have a minimal impact. This also holds true for how much we like music.

Factors that can influence our liking of music can be whether or not music was present during our childhood and to what extent, our associations with music (being positive or negative), and much more. Having musical lessons can foster or hinder one love for music, depending on how the lessons were received went for us.

Our experiences with any stimuli will greatly impact how we perceive it. We can come to dislike a song for as many reasons as we can love a song. Music is like a wave that flows and washes over people, at times purifying us, and at times corrupting us, but regardless of the end result, we are changed. Stereotypes, things we learned, and our social associations can all cause us to like or dislike types of music.

There are a wide variety of reasons as to why and how music impacts our lives. Music brings us together, and it can separate us, in our lives, ideals, and thoughts (which is not always a bad thing, because it can be a catalyst to help us grow). All in all, it is a fantastic tool for those who enjoy it. And there is nothing wrong with those who don’t enjoy music that much. We all have our preferences, and it’s in those differences that make us beautiful and wholly unique. Regardless of your opinion on music, there is something to be learned. Music is beautiful, but so are the people who make it and the innovativeness of humanity as a whole.
