A Brief Look into the Life of Prince

Born June 7th, 1958 Prince Rogers Nelson grew up to be a renowned singer and songwriter, achieving immense fame in the 80’s with his songs ‘purple rain’ and ‘1999’. Both his parents, John Nelson and Mattie Shaw were heavily involved in music. Having a strong interest in music himself, Prince taught himself how to play multiple instruments, including the piano, guitar, and drums at a young age. In a 2009 interview, the famed singer revealed that as a child he was teased because of the epileptic seizures he suffered from. Around the age of 10, his parents were no longer together, as such Prince and his sister spent their time going between both homes.

Not a whole lot is known about Prince’s personal life as he was very private. However, it is speculated that the song ‘When Doves Cry’ which was made for a film, may hint as to some aspects of his earlier personal life. Some of his more famous songs include ‘When Doves Cry’ and ‘Let’s Go Crazy’. one thing that was unique about Prince and his music is that he changed with the times as if adapting to the world around him. Many of his songs are deeply insightful hinting at a unique viewpoint of the world.

In 2010 Prince was featured in TIME Magazine as part of the list of ‘100 Most Influential People in the World” He also earned a lifetime award from BET awards.  The life of Prince was admirable and he aided in changing both the music industry and world. He used his performances and music to take political stances.

Sadly, this famous and beloved singer passed away April 21st, 2016.  A private funeral was held for him on April 23rd. An investigation revealed that the renowned singer passed away from accidentally overdosing of a fentanyl.
