Pushing Past the Fatigue

There are times when you’ll have to push past fatigue for one reason or another. It can be difficult, but still work needs to be done. Sure, a cup of coffee can help, however, there are some things you can do to further extend your limit in those times you need to persevere.

First off pure determination and willpower will carry you far. Be mindful of your thinking. Don’t acknowledge the fatigue and exhaustion and don’t dwell on it. Push it to the back of your mind until the task is either completed or you can have a rest. Keep upbeat and positive thoughts in your mind, play some music you like, do whatever you need to stay in control of your thoughts.

Know your triggers. There are some things that will make you tired. And they should be avoided. It could be subtle things, such as a certain setting. One thing you’ll want to do is avoid working in a place that you typically use to relax. Your mind likely has created an association with the surrounding area and the act of relaxing.

Some other things you can do is stay hydrated and eat energy giving foods, doing your best to avoid foods high in sugars. Sugar will provide a temporary boost of energy, but then you may crash. Another benefit to eating and drinking is that because your body has to digest the foods and beverage it’s actually more difficult to go to sleep.

Even though this next bit will seem contradictive, don’t push yourself past exhaustion. Remember above all that you do need rest. Your body has limited resources and if you don’t give it the rest it needed your body may just take it. Before you get to a point where you have to push yourself to this point, it’s best if you manage your time well, if unavoidable work hard, but then be sure to rest. Being too tired takes a massive toll on you mentally which will impact your work greatly and you will be more prone to making mistakes.
