How to get your Music on the Radio

Thanks to advances in technology you can pretty much listen to whatever you want. If you prefer not to listen to the radio and would rather listen to songs of your choosing it’s relatively easy to do. Phones, iPods, MP3 players, pretty much any electronic device nowadays grants you the power of personalized choice when it comes to what you listen to. Still, that does not mean other methods are not still in use.

Research indicates that the number of radios owned in the households has declined greatly from years past but, much of the adult population in America still listen to the radio (over 90 percent). It is still an important and useful way to get your music out there. The question becomes how do you go about doing it?

Firstly, be aware that there is a multitude of effective methods to get your music out into the world. Your options are not limited to just the radio. Other platforms such as Youtube and Facebook can help propel you forward by taking advantage of your already established connections, or algorithms that will help find people who are most likely to enjoy your content.

To get your song on the radio promotion is key. Whether it be self-promotion or promotion through a company this is a step that needs to occur. If you are an up and coming artist your best bet may be to push your music through a non-commercial station.  It’s a good way to get your feet wet, and college radio tends to be quite kind to independent artists.

Getting into commercial radio is a bit more involved. Naturally, having a foundation of plays from non-commercial and even small or medium commercial stations will help immensely. You’ll also want to run a campaign and approach stations with your music. Above all stay motivated and do some research to better your chances of success.
