Life Lessons that will help you When Working in the Music Industry

Life is a fantastic teacher, you can even apply some of life’s lessons to certain aspects of your career. After all life and your profession, both exist within the same spectrum of reality so it stands to reason that some things, no matter how small, will carry over.
Pace Yourself: You’ll need to pace yourself when working in the music industry. If you’re constantly in overdrive you’ll burn out quickly. That’s not to say don’t push yourself, there will be times when you’ll have to put your nose to the grindstone and really put in the work. However, be sure to rest when you need to, your work will suffer if you don’t. Phillip C. McGraw put it best when he said “Life’s a marathon, not a sprint.’ So too is working in the music industry.
Don’t Overthink: Overthinking can be the death of creativity. Overthinking can put you into an unproductive thought loop that’s difficult to get out of. Brainstorming can help prevent this from happening. Allot some time to jot down your ideas and go with those. It’s okay to add to and expand your ideas and maybe something you wrote will help generate new ideas. Just try to avoid getting to a point where you are no longer taking action because you’re too busy contemplating.
The past is the Past: This is a lesson of learning and letting go. Your past makes up who you are today, your experiences, encounters and the way you perceive them all shape you. You cannot change the events of the past, but you can alter your perception of it. If you have sad or painful things in your past seek to learn from them and don’t allow it to weigh you down. The same rule applies when working in the music industry you will make mistakes and perhaps even have a few mishaps along your journey but these are a part of life and it will help you grow as a person if you let it.
