Major scales have a sort of happy uplifting sound to them so typically if you want a song to sound happy you’ll play it in one of the major scales. In addition to that major scales are the most common. Take the C major, its notes consist of C, D, E, F, G, A, B, and C. Notice that the notes are the same as the A minor, the only difference is the starting and ending notes.
There are many different scales so you have many to choose from. It really is a matter of preference because you can play almost any song regardless of which scale you choose.
