What to do if you Meet a Celebrity
We’ve all wanted to meet someone famous that we’ve admired. And you never know when you might be casually going about your day and you meet a person you’ve only dreamed about encountering. It can be exciting but like anything, there are some do’s and don’ts to meeting someone famous.
While the interactions may be different depending on the reason for the meeting (i.e. if it’s for professional purposes or simply a happenstance) the one thing to keep in mind is that celebrities are people, and apart from a few things they are similar to any other person you may meet and wouldn’t mind terribly being treated in a similar fashion. For starters avoid touching them. Aside from a handshake how comfortable would you be if a stranger or someone you’ve just met walked up and started touching you. Chances are you wouldn’t like it.
Try to resist the temptation of taking stealth pictures. It’s better to just ask, to take a picture of or with them. If you are going to a convention plan ahead if you know your favorite celebrity is going to be there. If you are planning to take a photo think about which pose you are going to make beforehand, particularly because you’ll only get a very limited amount of time to have the photo taken.
Above all treat people well. Everyone is different some celebrities may like when his or her work and accomplishments are the centers of the conversation, and others may not. Additionally, be aware of the role and reputation they must uphold and how taxing it can be. They may be in a rush, or simply don’t feel like talking. Try not to take it personally if that is the case. And lastly, it’s okay to let them know they are appreciated.
