Do you need to have Mental Strength to Succeed in Music?

There are all kinds of strength including physical, emotional, mental. Possessing one type of strength does not necessarily mean that a person possesses all forms of strength. Mental strength doesn’t always mean that you won’t have emotional responses, simply that you can push forward even when times are tough. It doesn’t take much thought to see why this trait would be invaluable to any person pursuing a potentially difficult career or endeavor in life.

Having a wealth of mental strength can offer more than just the drive to move forward in the face of adversity. Being strong mentally can help you recover quickly from failure and keep or gain confidence when you succeed, both of which are important. Life is not easy, and the more protective factors a person has the better off they’ll be when trying to overcome difficulties. With time, you may even find yourself embracing the challenges when faced with them.

There are several ways to gain strength mentally and much of it has to do with perspective. With the right perspective, you can change most of your thoughts, and by extension your responses, to almost any situation. And like exercise you gain this strength from experience. Eleanor Roosevelt put it beautifully when he said “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’” Anything wort having is worth the effort it takes to obtain it. Don’t fear hard times, everyone will face difficulties in their life, seek to grow and learn from those experiences as they may be of use to you one day.
