The Influences Music has on Fashion

Music heavily impacts multiple aspects of our lives, from culture to fashion.  It is not unusual for music celebrities to develop their own style and for others to then go and mimic said style. It’s a form of self-expression that has the capacity to tell others a little about yourself (i.e. I might like or be interested in this type of music). You can draw inspiration from your favorite musician and incorporate their style into your own. Fashion and style serve a unique purpose for music.

Certain styles are used as a sort of division to distinguish and set one musician apart from other musicians. Similar to how a doctor might don his coat so others can tell his profession, an artist can display his or her own personalized attire to be set apart from the rest. You may even have a few clothing music associations yourself. There is nothing inherently bad about dressing up in attire that you like. Just be warned that even though we shouldn’t “judge a book by its cover” some people still do.

There are people who will make assumptions about you based on your attire. This can happen for multiple reasons, but it all boils down to one center root, and that was they were taught. Either by society, their parents, or observations, people are taught to associate things like appearance with behaviors. It’s unfortunate and maybe one day it’s a habit that we, as a society, can break out of.

Judgment and assumptions aside, we really should be thankful for the connection between fashion and music. Almost every article of clothing, from socks to ribbons, have been impacted through music. Clothing is no longer something only used to protect our bodies from the elements, it’s a way we can tell others a little about ourselves, who we are, and what we like, all without ever saying a single word.
