Music Lyrics in the Future

Music is a time line. By listening to the songs of any given period of time you can gain a pretty good understanding of the predominant topics and issues at the time. Of course, there are some cultural differences, particularly if censorship on music exists. Also the region of the world or country you are in will also be a factor.

Songs like ‘toy soldier’ by Eminem depict a time in which violence between particular people existed and was prevalent. In recent years’ songs dealing with self-acceptance such as ‘Try’ by Colbie Caillat have been showing up (more than they did, say 50 years ago). Naturally the times and views are different, however, we can deduce this: the world is changing, and that change can be reflected in our music, so if we can predict what the world may be like in 50 years then we should also have a good idea of how the music topics will change as well.

Even if it’s hard to believe the levels of violent crimes have been decreasing. The following link is a 2015 article by CHARLES C. W. COOKE that talks more about the matter: Careful with the Panic: Violent Crime and Gun Crime Are Both Dropping.
With this in mind, one could predict that the level of violence acts protrayed in music will decline.

People are more accepting and open minded than in years past. You can see a general shift in thinking as it pertains to certain issues. Things that would have caused a huge uproar, disownment or, even death are slowly being accepted. Does that mean everyone views these topics the same? No, of course not. But if we keep heading down this path of love and kindness towards people then it stands to reason that in the future our music will reflect this too.
