Are Music Venues Fading Away?

Music venues are locations used for the performance of music. They can be anything from concert halls to sports stadiums and clubs. For the purposes of this blog, we will primarily be focusing on night music venues (particularly in areas like London). Music venues were very popular in the past as they provide a place for people to hang out and have fun. There has been some speculation that music venues are actually fading away in cities.

Part of the thought is that the deaths of artists at night venues may have a lot to do with why venues may be fading away. Policy changes and stricter security may be the reason why we are seeing a gradual decline in certain types of music venues. The truth is that not all music related places are treated equally. As such, a negative stigma may have begun to form.

Long story short while live music is still thriving small venues are not so lucky. Even though this issue may not impact all areas of the world it is important to recognize what others are going through. A decrease in music venues can impact people in unforeseen ways. For example, it may limit the experiences of new artist and make it far more difficult for them to be discovered.

Music venues can act as a sort of platform for people to test and polish their skills in a smaller setting. By removing that we are eliminating a crucial aspect of learning itself. Live music will ever fade away, even if some of the places we experience it do. As Jim James once said “Live music is proof that there are some things the Internet can’t kill. In our lifetime, we’re going to see more and more things start to disappear and get gobbled up by the Internet, but live music won’t be one of them.”
