Why do People Behave Differently at Concerts?

Concerts are a fun way to hang out with people who have similar musical tastes to you. But have you ever noticed that some people, maybe even you yourself are behaving a little differently in a concert setting? It is not uncommon for people to mimic others to fit in. Not many want to stand out in a crowd of people. When In a group we pull on the surrounding energy. It’s hard not to feel excited when everyone else around you are excited.

So, beyond the social faction why else might we behave differently when at a concert?  There are other factors such as the rush of excitement, the sounds, and the lights are all things that can influence your response. When you hear your favorite song even when you are alone you might dance or sing along, but in a group setting those feelings are heightened and your excitement merges with the crowds. Think of being around others as an amplifier for an instrument. Alone you can put out a great deal of sound, but with others that sound is intensified.

When at a concert you are not completely chained to the typical social norms that govern society. As such you can let loose and act out in a way befitting your excitement along with everyone else. It’s good to let loose from time to time. Research shows that positive feelings are fantastic for many aspects of your physical health and emotional state.

Wayne Dyer once said “To be more childlike, you don’t have to give up being an adult. The fully integrated person is capable of being both an adult and a child simultaneously. Recapture the childlike feelings of wide-eyed excitement, spontaneous appreciation, cutting loose, and being full of awe and wonder at this magnificent universe.”
