Music is Far More Powerful Than you Think

“Music drives you. It wakes you up, it gets you pumping. And, at the end of the day, the correct tune will chill you down.”
– Dimebag Darrell
Music in and of itself is a powerful medium for suggestions and social change be it good or bad. In that regard, musicians can easily become people of influence through their music alone. In previous blogs, we’ve examined the connection between people and music on an emotional, physical, and psychological level and found some rather interesting (albeit expected) results. With all these factors in mind, it is becoming evidently clear that music, as Richard Ashcroft put it, is power.
Music dominates the internet. If you look at the most popular YouTube channels you’ll find that many of them are music based, however, this trend of popularity extends well past YouTube and well into other social media platforms as well. One could even say that, in a manner of speaking, musicians help the vast world we call the internet function.
Even if you are not a musician you can still use the power of music. Naturally, there is the use of music on a personal level, but you can also use it to help reciprocate change by way of sharing or posting it. Research shows that most people are exposed to new music and artists through others (such as friends, people they follow online, or as an automated recommendation through a platform like YouTube). By you expressing your like for a particular song you may be helping that song, and even the artist, grow in popularity.
The world we live in is populated by the sound it’s no wonder people choose music as a way to resonate with others to help share a common bond. Perhaps one day the social barriers that enshroud our world will be completely dissolved by the power of music.
