Reducing Background Noise in your Audio Recordings

It can be a pain to edit out background noise from your recording, while possible with today’s technology to quickly and easily remove background noise it is more time efficient to prevent it all together. There are several steps you can take to reduce or completely eliminate background noises from your audio recordings.
First things first location. Not all of us have the luxury of being able to record in a professional studio, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it sound like you’re in a studio. If you are able to, try to record in a quiet space. You can also use soundproof wall panels to help reduce noise that may be coming in from the outside of the room.
Alas, sometimes your recording device itself can be the reason you’re getting a lot of background noise. If you have a sensitive microphone and if your computer’s fan is too loud it can add unwanted background noise. You can invest in a quieter computer fan or if that is not an option, adjust the microphone so that it faces away from the computer.
There is also a chance that the issue is with the soundcard in your computer is producing unwanted noise. If you want to test to see if this is the case, simply record with “no inputs”. Afterward, listen to the recording to see if there is a static sound. To resolve this, you can either replace the soundcard of the shield it.
If you are still encountering background noise then you can also use audio editing software to remove it. One fantastic program to use is Adobe Auditions. This program allows you to remove noises and sounds with relative ease. Adobe Auditions allows you to capture a sound print which you can then use to remove the background noise from your file entirely.
