A Few Simple Things you can do to Become a Better Musician

It doesn’t take massive adjustments to improve your craft. In fact, a few simple changes and adjustments can go a long way to making you a better musician.  First and foremost, set goals and develop a plan of action. Trying to accomplish anything without a clear goal and steps will make it that much more difficult to accomplish. You’ll also go far by practicing patience. Being a musician is a marathon, not a race, so pace yourself and make a daily effort to achieve your goals.

Make all of your efforts as fun as you can. It will do little good to reach your goals if you make yourself miserable in the process. There are plenty of ways to make obtaining your goals fun. For example, you could organize a jam session. Playing with friends, and just letting loose can be a tremendous way to practice and still enjoy yourself.

If you are aiming to become a great musician, there is some technical knowledge you’ll need to know as well such as knowing which key you’re in, practicing properly so you don’t inadvertently injure yourself, finding a teacher, and getting to know your instrument. If you need help, there are a plethora of online resources at your disposal.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to move out of your comfort zone, in fact, do it as often as possible. When you broaden your horizons, you’ll find that things that were once uncomfortable become comfortable as you get used to it. Alex Hannold put it best when he said: “My comfort zone is like a little bubble around me, and I’ve pushed it in different directions and made it bigger and bigger until these objectives that seemed totally crazy eventually fall within the realm of the possible.”
