Staying True to You and your Values

As a music artist, particularly if you want to be viewed in the eyes of the public, you may benefit from having a prosoma of sorts. That’s not to say you’ll need to create an entirely different identity or have an alter ego (though you can if you wish) simply that you have some boundaries between your professional and private life. Compartmentalizing is the ability to keep emotions, feelings, and actions in the category they belong. For example, someone that is good at compartmentalizing don’t allow work related affairs or emotions to spill over into their home life.

Stay true to your values:  Your values are an intimate part of who you are and they help you maintain a sense of yourself. One tends to lose themselves when their values are sacrificed. So, when you are deciding who you want to be in the eyes of the public holds strong to your values. Thai does not mean you have to express each one wholeheartedly at all times, just hold on to then and don’t lose sight of who you are.

Don’t try to become another person: It’s always helpful to take advice from and learn as much as you can from a person in your field. You may like any number of aspects about them, their leadership skills, the way they play music, to how they perform. There is nothing wrong with admiring and aspiring to be like someone, however don’t become them. You are uniquely you and those you admire very likely didn’t get to where they are (or were) simply by copying another.

Don’t be your own bane: In any career, it is important to know that mistakes will happen, sometimes there will be an error in judgement, other times things won’t go as planned. You do yourself no good by beating yourself up should things go wrong. Learn from mistakes, but don’t allow them to stop you or cause you to question your worth.
