There are plenty of talented artists that are not supported by the music industry. While that does offer a bit of freedom it also means that they don’t get the same financial backing as artists who are part of the industry. There are plenty of ways to support an indie artist, and you don’t necessarily have to go out of your way to be of help. Indie artists have to do a lot, from content creation to marketing and everything in between. You can be certain that if you help them out it will certainly be appreciated.
Firstly, you can usually find out how to best help by visiting their website (as opposed to purchasing from a third-party source). Many artists will have a link on their site that will benefit them in some way, chances are that they will get a higher percentage if you but using the links on their site (or purchase directly from them). Additionally, streaming services don’t pay out very well for artists, so if you are trying to support them consider buying their music or merchandise instead.
You can also help by joining an artist’s social media and electronic mailing lists. This is great because you can help broadcast the artists. Ultimately you may help increase that artists fanbase as well. Along with that you can simply talk to your friends about them and allow them to listen to the artist’s music. Supporting your favorite artists can really make a difference in their career and even their life.
