The Feeling of Christmas

Christmas for many is the embodiment of cheer and togetherness. This holiday can also bring with it certain stressors due in part to the commercialization of Christmas. Despite this, many people have relatively happy memories regarding the season in general.
Christmas typically regarded as a Christian holiday, though many non-Christians do celebrate and enjoy it, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. While there is no indication in the bible that Jesus was actually born on this particular date this is when it was chosen to be celebrated. The 25th of December is actually a pagan holiday, a sort of winter festival. Many Christians, at the time this winter festival was widely celebrated, didn’t want to be involved with this particular holiday, so they decided to have their own festivities to celebrate Jesus instead.
Christmas is not limited to any one religion or group, and it is celebrated in a multitude of ways. Perhaps one of the most famous traditions is the exchanging of gifts. This gift exchange has many renditions one of which involving a man referred to as ‘Santa Claus’ who flies in a sleigh, with the help of magical reindeer, delivering toys to children throughout the world. In that regard, many children receive gifts from a sender who is referred to as Santa.
Christmas is associated with many symbols that are easily recognized, A tree covered in ornaments, stars, lights, wrapped boxes, gifts, and wreaths, are some of the many physical symbols used to represent this holiday, but perhaps the most distinguished element of the holiday is the music.
From churches to schools many people hear and are taught Christmas songs. Songs celebrating the feeling of Christmas, from the weather to the religious aspects are all quite common during the latter months of the year. A few such classics are songs such as “silent night”, “The First Noel”, and “Jingle Bells”.
