The Importance of Being Patient as a Musician

In the past couple of decades, it seems like the world is moving significantly faster than before. So it can be difficult not to feel like you need to rush to gain success. Feeling rushed can lead to impacts of frustration and anxiety, mainly if you feel like you are not reaching your goals in the time frame you want. However, patience is an essential quality not only to keep your stress levels down but because being a musician will take time.

As long as you take the steps each day to make forward progression, then you should consider each day a success. Making a big break in one fell swoop is ideal, however; this is not always possible and even people who seemed to make it big all in one go, they had to put the work in somewhere. People who suddenly pop up out of nowhere in popularity have probably been preparing for years to achieve that success. It’s a dangerous misconception to believe that people “luck out” in the music industry because not only does it devaluate the actual work that they put into getting where they are at, but it also makes it appear that it’s easy to achieve that success.

Working in the music industry is more like a marathon rather than a sprint, so take strides daily to achieve your goals. This mindset will take patience, and you’ll need to be willing and able to go the distance even in the face of stress or setbacks. Put your time and energy into steadily growing your career, as opposed to rushing. Practicing patience will carry you far and prepare you for the long haul as you strive to achieve your career goals. Work hard, do your best, and remember that steadiness, reliability, and consistency are all traits that will make you valuable no matter what you choose to do.
