Quality Key: Interview with the CEO
Quality Key is a music production company that got its name from the company CEO, Tavares Foster. Foster says that he came up with the name while “viewing nature as a musical element.” Behind the corporate-like exterior is a real, passion for music, heart, and determination.
Quality Key was inspired by the desire to help alter the perspective of others and generate a mindset of growth and prosperity. One thing that makes Quality Key different from other music companies is that they want to give aspiring musicians “the ability to be heard without worrying about the cons of the music business (Foster).” Quality Key is a company built on strong morals and principles. Some of the skills that helped shape the company into what it is today are etiquette and knowledge of the ins and outs of the music industry from the standpoint of a musician.
Most people are influenced by a person, circumstance, or event. Foster is no different. When asked who or what influenced him he responded ‘Electronic Staff (a company that speculates in building websites), the hip hop artists that have come before him, good vibes, his team, and the people with whom he surrounds himself.’ Foster believes that it’s important to keep good company because they help you stay oriented in the right direction and cope with the highs and lows of life. “I believe that you are the company that you keep,” says Foster during an interview.
When asked what advice he might have for individuals wishing to start their own company Foster responded with this: “Copyrights, always make sure that your business is trademarked before anything else and that you have a proper system for whatever business you’re trying to start.”
