Using a Company or DIY Tactics to get your Song on the Radio

“I strongly encourage listening to the radio to hear something you haven’t heard before. It’s a very healthy thing to do. It’s strange: unless you reload your iPods every couple of weeks, you’re listening to and recycling the same music all of the time. I’m serious. Listen to your radio station.” -Alvin Lee

Despite the advances in technology, with music listening devices and streaming, plenty of people still use and listen to the radio. For entertainment and news and to make commutes more entertaining, the radio offers a lot to both listeners and for people wanting to present their songs to a wide audience.

Getting your music on the radio is a dream for many musicians. It can provide exposure for the musician, as well as be used for a promotional tool. There are a few methods to get your music on the radio, and the option you choose should be considered as both have their pros and cons.

Using a company to negotiate on your behalf:

Let’s be honest not everyone wants to negotiate, it can be time-consuming and frustrating. So, sometimes having someone else do the work for you can be of tremendous help as it will free up some of your time so you can work on other things. The downside is, of course, the cost.

Do it yourself:

Promoting yourself and trying to get your music on the radio is extremely involved. You’ll need to contact the station, provide a copy of your music, and handle all the negotiations. The good news is you are in control, with the trade out being the time. There are resources online that you can utilize, and radio stations often have websites where you can find more information and contact details.
