Work Smarter, not Harder

You may be surprised what working smarter can do for you. Music is a multifaceted business that takes a lot of time and energy. Saving a few minutes or even seconds on a task can really start to add up over time. That’s why finding ways to do things in an efficient manner is so important. Your time is precious and you should spend as much of it as you can, doing what you love.

Take some time to plan and manage time. When we are excited about something we tend to rush in, however, a good plan can be the difference between success and failure.  Everyone is different, so find what works for you. For some, a schedule works best, for others producing a certain amount of work after a specified time period is key. Either way, make sure that you have a plan of action, this will keep you oriented on your tasks.

Use automated processes whenever possible. Some social media, such as Facebook and YouTube allows you the option to schedule content to be released at a certain time. This allows you to work ahead and have your content ready.  Creating a frequently asked questions list will also help save time, particularly if you notice that you are being asked the same questions multiple times.

Allocate your workload. There are some artists who just want to be concerned with creating music; there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you are the type of person who does not want to be concerned with marketing, sales, or some of the other aspects of your career that may be necessary to keep your pockets lined then find someone who is. Naturally, you may need to do some things you may not want to, like providing footage and recordings for EPKs and other promotional material.

“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word — excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.”  – Pearl S. Buck
