The Importance of Music Videos

Music videos have been a source of income and a form of art long before YouTube, with televised stations, such as MTV helping to integrate them into our culture and our lives. Music videos are a form of art and can add additional context to a song that a person might not have known or thought about upon initially listening to said song.

Today, music videos are immensely popular, and with YouTube being the second largest search engine in the world, we have easier access to them. Music videos serve another purpose they become engrained in our memory. With digital music and streaming taking center stage, we may be hard-pressed to remember and recognize album covers. However, we do remember videos, particularly if we liked it. A music video allows ant artist to connect with the listener uniquely. They are expressing the lyrics, telling a story, and expressing love and passion for their work all at the same time.

A music video can also help with the popularity of the song itself. On its own a song may be catchy; however, if you meld some unique dance moves with it, the song can become a cultural phenomenon.

Creating a quality music video is no simple task. In a way, it’s similar to a movie production (on a small scale). There is planning, directing, and editing involved. The process can span for weeks or months, depending on the unique specks of the video. Some artists may opt for different styles (like computer animation) these choices can determine the time it takes to create the video.

On the flip side, a poor music video can drain the life right out of a song. If the video is not entertaining or, captivating, people can lose interest, and today it’s quite easy to switch to another video. We have an entire world of content at our fingertips.
